THE ITALIAN BEEF STORY
Simply put, we invented Italian Beef in 1938 and we still make it the same way we did back then. In 1938, there weren't any chemical additives in our kitchen cabinets so we just used the spices and herbs available to us. The result was miraculous and we never changed the recipe. First and foremost, our beef is pure. That means it's real food. In a day and age when most meats are artificially “pumped” with chemicals, like phosphates, preservatives and flavor enhancers to make it tender and add weight, we refuse to sink to that practice. Dry roasting beef, keeping it pure, that’s our promise and our commitment to you. We know you can tell the difference, because it is… a Better Choice.
THE GIARDINERA STORY
(Pronounced – Jar-di-nare-a) We decided very early on that our great beef needed a great accompaniment to add even more “zip” to the sandwich. We Italians do that to a lot of things. Using the same spices we use to make our beef, we add a lot of hot peppers to our very secret vegetable mix and marinate the whole thing for several days under a layer of pure vegetable oil. The result is a spicy and perfectly flavored addition to a perfectly flavored sandwich. All real and all natural…a Better Choice.
THE FRENCH FRY STORY
To make the perfect meal, we decided to serve a great French fry. What makes a great French fry you ask? We believe it starts with a great potato. Our potatoes come from one area of the U.S where the soil is special and therefore it grows special potatoes. Other restaurants buy from wherever the price is cheapest. Not us. We hand wash and hand cut each and every potato to the exact perfect cooking size, then cook them in 100% vegetable oil. That is our ingredient list: potatoes and vegetable oil. Now on the surface, that may sound like it’s not a very big deal, but it really is, because what you do NOT see above is the following: Citric Acid, Dextrose, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate, Modified Potato Starch, Rice Flour, Disodium Di-hydrogen Pyrophosphate, Sodium Bicarbonate, and Xanthan Gum. You don’t see these chemicals in our fries because they are NOT there. We don’t add anything to our potatoes. 98% of all French fries sold in this country are frozen fries and chemicals like these are added to frozen fries. Only 2% of U.S. restaurants serve fresh, hand-cut fries. We are part of the 2%. So here’s the education part of your day: Potatoes are NOT naturally crispy when fried. Soaking a perfectly good potato in the above chemicals turns them into a chemical mess, and that’s what makes them crispy. Your mom never did that at home and neither do we. Our fries are real, no chemicals and that makes them… a Better Choice.
